TN bottle bill will make DtKpt and TN cleaner!!
Posted by DownTown Kingsport Square on October 29, 2007
Are you sick and tired of seeing this:

Having participated in cleanups in Downtown Kingsport and along the Green Belt, I am!!
I have long thought that having a bottle deposit would encourage recycling and reuse, keep our community cleaner, and decrease the trash put into our landfills. let alone our creeks, streams, and rivers. The 11 states which have a bottle deposit recyle more than all the remaining 39 states combined!!!!!!! If you do the math, those 11 states make up only about 30% of the total US population.
I recently found out about a bill being sponsored acros party lines by several TN representatives that would bring about a statewide bottle deposit (aluminum, plastic, and glass).
Check out this website www.tnbottlebill.org
to find out more about how this bottle bill could transorm our downtown, our community, and our state. Reading the financial incentives of this bill is more than enough to convince people wary of “tree-huggers” that this is a truly conservative and progessive move for our state. According to Marge Davis, if the bill takes effect, 85 percent of the 4.2 billion beverage containers used annually across Tennessee would be recycled. That’s a dramatic increase from the 10 percent now being recycled. Take pride in our beautiful state!!

Milliken Institute
ranks Kingsport-Bristol 13th
in highly-concentrated high tech industries
among large U.S. metros
I don’t guess I’ll ever get used to seeing Kingsport-Bristol listed as a “large metro” and compared to places like New York City, L.A. and San Francisco!
Here’s the latest “best places list” where we are mentioned.
Pretty impressive when you see we’re rated higher than Austin, Research Triangle, Washington, DC, and Huntsville in highly-concentrated high tech industries!
The Milliken Institute recently released its 2007 “Best Performing Cities” list of large and small U.S. metropolitan areas.
Large metros are >235,000
Small metros are <235,000
You might be pleasantly surprised to know that Kingsport-Bristol ranked 13th in number of highly-concentrated high tech industries among large U.S. metros.
So, what about the high-tech company Kingsport-Bristol is keeping?
1. Santa Ana, CA

6. Dallas, TX
10. Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville, FL
