KINGSPORT — It’s been less than a year since he opened Discovery Ice Cream in downtown Kingsport, and Allan Jones is already taking his business concept to the next level.

Jones, chief executive officer of Discovery Ice Cream and CEO and co-founder of the parent company, Puffin Innovations, began offering franchises of the business in mid-April. So far, he’s in talks with potential franchisees in Greeneville and Johnson City as well as Charleston, S.C. “

Options for the Foundry looked into by city of Kingsport

If any of you have taken a left off of Wilcox onto East Sullivan Street you will notice the unfortunate site of the old foundry. Several people have commented to me that something has to be done sooner than later to clean up this mess. It’s unfortunately a main gateway into Downtown Kingsport and when we invite people to our downtown we purposely redirect them to Center Street so they don’t have to see this scar of Downtown’s landscape. A Downtown that is lacking in residential, greenspace, and mixed used commercial could do well here, especially with its location so close to Eastman. Downtown Lofts can’t be built quickly enough to meet the demand and I’ve heard mention from several citizens and business owners that they would like to see more green space downtown. I have to say that a metal reclamation center is not my idea of an aesthetically pleasing welcome into our downtown. Even disregrarding aesthetics, this eyesore has an economic impact as well.

Stir Fry Cafe is officially open! Click on Stir Fry Cafe Lunch Menu or Stir Fry Cafe Dinner Menu to see all the scrumptious dishes they’re bringing to Downtown Kingsport. If you are looking for a beer Thursday night and for some reason the DKA is not setting up the tent, you can walk over to Stir Fry Cafe, 12 Bones, or the Kingsport Grocery Co. (lots of microbrews on tap at KGC) and there is also beer available at Junction 115 on Broad Street.
